Supporting your body through pregnancy, recovery, and return to exercise.

At InnerFocus Physical Therapy in Verona, NJ, we guide you through pregnancy discomfort, core recovery, and a safe return to the movement you love.

Common is not normal. Many symptoms are considered “just part of pregnancy,” postpartum recovery, or an active lifestyle. While they may be common, they shouldn’t prevent you from exercising, caring for your family, or doing the activities you enjoy.

We help women stay active throughout pregnancy, recover after childbirth, and safely return to running, lifting, and other forms of exercise.

Are you experiencing any of these issues?

Pregnancy and Postpartum Pain

Are you experiencing low back pain, pelvic pain, hip pain, or discomfort during pregnancy or after delivery?

These symptoms are common, but they are not something you simply have to live with. Physical therapy can help reduce pain, improve movement, and prepare your body for the physical demands of pregnancy, childbirth, and recovery.

Whether your goal is to stay active during pregnancy or return to exercise postpartum, we can help you move with greater comfort and confidence.

Difficulty Returning to Exercise

Have you returned to exercise such as running or lifting but don’t feel quite like yourself?

You may experience heaviness, pressure, weakness, abdominal separation, pain, or concerns about safely progressing your training. Returning to sport after pregnancy involves more than simply waiting for medical clearance.

We help active women gradually and safely return to running, strength training, and other athletic pursuits with a plan designed around their sport, fitness level, and goals.

Urinary Leakage During Exercise

Do you leak urine when you cough, sneeze, jump, run, or lift weights?

Urinary leakage is common, but not normal, among active women, athletes, pregnant, and postpartum women. Through individualized pelvic floor physical therapy, we can identify the factors contributing to your symptoms and create a treatment plan tailored to your goals and activities.

Pelvic Pain

Pelvic pain can affect women during pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond. Symptoms may be related to the muscles and joints of the pelvis, the pelvic floor, the hips, or the lower back.

A thorough evaluation can help identify the source of your symptoms and guide treatment so you can return to the activities that matter most to you.

Caring physical therapy support built for your stage of motherhood.

At InnerFocus, we treat diagnoses common during pregnancy and the postpartum period including core weakness, pelvic girdle pain, low back pain, Sacroiliac (SI) joint dysfunction, pubic symphysis dysfunction, diastasis recti (DRA), painful intercourse, coccydynia, pelvic pain, scaring from cesarean birth or episiotomy.

Pregnancy-Related Physical Therapy

Pregnancy places unique demands on your body, and physical therapy can help you stay active, comfortable, and confident throughout each trimester. Whether you’re experiencing pain, mobility limitations, or simply want to prepare your body for birth, treatment is tailored to your individual needs and goals.

Physical Therapy can help reduce pregnancy-related discomfort with personalized treatment plans to improve strength, mobility, and stay active while managing the physical changes of pregnancy. Pelvic health physical therapists can help you prepare for birth by teaching perineal massage techniques, birth biomechanics, and pushing and positioning strategies. “Push Prep” sessions help with pelvic floor preparation, and explore which pushing strategies and positions feel best for you to help you feel more confident going into labor and delivery.

Postpartum Physical Therapy

There are plenty of books, apps, and advice for pregnancy expectation, but many women are surprised by how little support and guidance the receive after giving birth. Many women experience physical symptoms after delivery, including pelvic floor issues, pain, weakness, fatigue or difficulty returning to exercise and everyday activities. These changes are incredibly common and can last longer than most women expect.

Physical therapy can help support recovery after pregnancy and childbirth by providing personalized care for your body and goals. Whether you are dealing with abdominal scars, pain, pelvic floor concerns, weakness, or simply want to advise on returning to exercise safely, postpartum physical therapy offers education, support and a plan designed for you. Postpartum recovery is not about “bouncing back.” It is about rebuilding strength and feeling confident in your body again.

Return to Sports & Exercise Program

Athletes do not return to running or lifting after injury without a structured rehabilitation plan, yet many postpartum women are expected to return to exercise after the major pregnancy related physical changes, and sometimes even surgery, with little guidance or support.

Pregnancy and childbirth place significant demands on the body, and postpartum recovery deserves the same thoughtful, individualized approach as athletic rehabilitation. Even in the absence of pain, physical therapy can help support healing, rebuild strength and guide a safe return to activity.

Sessions may include screening for readiness to return to running or personalized plans for returning to walking programs, running, strength training, and other activities that are important to you.

Consultation & Wellness Program

Navigating the physical aspects of pregnancy and postpartum recovery can feel confusing and isolating, but you do not have to figure it out alone. Our online consultation and wellness sessions provide personalized guidance and education during every stage of pregnancy and postpartum recovery, all from the comfort of your home.

Whether you have questions about exercising during your pregnancy, pelvic floor health, core recovery or returning to exercise, these individualized sessions help you better understand your body and recovery process.
